An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at the Albany, N.Y., assisted living facility, Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker, has left 3 people dead and more than 20 others hospitalized.

Three people who tested positive for Legionnaires’ disease have died after an outbreak at an assisted living facility in upstate New York, officials said Thursday. Albany County health officials became aware of a cluster of cases at Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker in Albany on Friday.

The operators at the facility said they have been coordinating with state and local health officials to safeguard residents, staff and visitors.

A third person has died in an outbreak of Legionella at Peregrine Senior Living Shaker, an assisted living facility on Northern Boulevard. Albany County spokeswoman Mary Rozak disclosed the death in an email to the Times Union late Thursday morning.
